  7. QCHECK3  - the  CREATIVE  RESOURCES Checking  Account  Management 
  8. System is a menu-driven program, which is set up to  minimize the  
  9. errors,  and  ease  reporting of data on any  checking   account, 
  10. either personal or small to medium size business.
  11.  
  12. Menu  selections include new check/charge entry,  deposit  entry, 
  13. check cancellation, deposit cancellation, balance inquiry, screen 
  14. listing  of a portion or all of the check register file,  listing 
  15. of all uncanceled items,  editing of any item,  creation of a new 
  16. register,   a variety of reports on check and  deposit  activity, 
  17. and   a  means of restarting the program for  a  different  check  
  18. register   data   file   without the  need   to   exit   to   the 
  19. operating   system.  Also includes is the ability to  export data  
  20. to  an electronic spreadsheet (SuperCalc,  Quattro,  Lotus, etc.) 
  21. and provides for user-defined check memo code   suggestions,  and 
  22. user-defined  function key macros for  "Pay  To" entries,   user-
  23. defined printer set-up strings,  a  handy  calendar function  for 
  24. date look-up,  checks for adequate disk space  prior to   actions 
  25. requiring  more  space,  and eliminating the need  for   a  check 
  26. register  "shell"  for  creating new  data  files.   Version  6.0 
  27. contains  a  major  revision to the  editing  capabilities,  with 
  28. significantly improved ease of access to any entry, easier moving 
  29. to the next, previous, or any other record entry, light-bar style 
  30. main menu,  on-line help at the main menu (including descriptions 
  31. of  "hidden" menu selections),  user-definable screen colors  (if 
  32. you don't like those furnished) with standard keyboard or  "point 
  33. &  shoot" color selection in plain English (rather than  esoteric 
  34. computer codes), and further improvements in handling using files 
  35. in  remote  subdirectories  or different drives.   A  minimum  of 
  36. knowledge of computers is assumed.

  38. Included   in  the  Getting Started section of the  manual  is  a 
  39. sample  run   with  a furnished   sample  check   register   data  
  40. file.    The  user  is encouraged  to follow through the  options 
  41. outlined  while  sitting in  front  of  his   computer  terminal,  
  42. using   the   sample   check  register   data  file   (TEST3.DBF) 
  43. included,   following  the   text   to  perform  the    described 
  44. operations, using this reference manual as a tutorial.

  48. The following steps are suggested for getting started:
  49.  
  50. 1.  First, use the PC/MS-DOS COPY or DISKCOPY commands to make  a 
  51. duplicate,  backup  copy of the  original,  master,  distribution 
  52. disk.  NOTE: Not all extracted files will fit on a single floppy.
  53.  
  54. 2.   Copy the specially compressed ("archived") file QCHECK36.EXE 
  55. onto  your hard disk or 2nd (otherwise empty, to assure  adequate 
  56. room)  floppy.   Extract  the full-size  user  reference  manual, 
  57. CHECKING.DOC to Drive B: by issuing the following command:

  60.  
  61. To extract to the hard disk, simply type:
  62.  
  63.                QCHECK36 <ret>
  64.  
  65. This  extracts  all files to the default directory  on  the  hard 
  66. disk.
  67.  
  68. 3.  Print-out  the documentation/user manual  "CHECKING.DOC"  by 
  69. issuing the batch file command:
  70.  
  71.            PRINTDOC <ret>
  72.  
  73. or simply type:     COPY CHECKING.DOC PRN
  74.  
  75. 4.   To Extract the program and its required error message  files 
  76. to a second floppy,  place a second blank,  formatted floppy into 
  77. Drive B: and type:
  78.  
  79.           EXTRACTB2 <ret>
  80.  
  81. 5.  To Extract the balance of the files, to a second floppy, place 
  82. a third blank, formatted floppy into Drive B: and type:
  83.  
  84.           EXTRACTB3 <ret>
  85.  
  86. This transfers the balance of the files needed to run QCHECK3.

  89. 6.  Start the program by typing:  QCHECK3 <ret>
  90.  
  91. 7.  Use the sample data file as your initial check register file:  
  92.  
  93.                  TEST3 <ret>
  94.  
  95.     (also enter the drive, if different, ie: B:TEST3)
  96.  
  97. ATTENTION  - FLOPPY ONLY USERS:   DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN WITH BOTH 
  98. PROGRAM AND DATA FILES ON THE SAME 360kB FLOPPY!!    THE  PROGRAM 
  99. WILL EVENTUALLY RUN OUT OF DISK SPACE AND REFUSE TO CONTINUE,  OR 
  100. IT MAY CRASH.   USE DRIVE A:  FOR THE PROGRAM ONLY,  AND DRIVE B: 
  101. FOR  ALL OTHER FILES.   PUT THE USER MANUAL ON A SEPARATE  FLOPPY 
  102. FROM EVERYTHING ELSE.  
  103.  
  104. HARD DISK USERS WILL NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS.
  105.  
  106. ATTENTION   - HARD DISK USERS:    BEWARE THAT SOME "DISK CACHING" 
  107. SOFTWARE  MAY INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATIONS OF QCHECK3.   IF  YOU 
  108. ARE  CURRENTLY  USING  "DISK CACHING"  SOFTWARE  AND  CANNOT  RUN 
  109. QCHECK3, OR IF YOU GET STRANGE RESULTS OR ERROR MESSAGES, YOU MAY 
  110. HAVE TO DISABLE YOUR DISK CACHING SOFTWARE PRIOR TO USING QCHECK3.

  112. 8.   Run  through  the program options as outlined  in  the  user 
  113. manual, as a tutorial.
